Tapestry

Local schools helping with the tapestry

We went to see the Head and Wendy Bowyer of Hurley School on Friday morning they made us all feel very welcome. The Head is changing the school timetable for the Autumn Term so the children in year 6, 10-11 year old can do the WW1 project from September to Christmas.

It was agreed for the ladies go to the school to show and help the children to make poppies. The Head has agreed if there are any poppies we do not require for the tapestry the ladies will help the children do a collage to hang in reception of the school, and he also asked if we would work with the children 10-11 years in the Autumn term to paint a picture to also hang in the reception.

The head also ask that we go into the school week commencing 5th November and be part of the remembrance week and also he asks that we meet him either at the school to walk to Hurley churchyard where the vicar will do a service with the children at the war memorial.

Starting the Tapestry

Some members of the group worked at Piccadilly Community Centre to organise photographs that are going into the tapestry.

The photographs were copied on to material for the ladies to embroider.

At our April meeting the group had discuss and agreed all the photographs for the tapestry.
